New Year's Resolutions - Why They Fail

Did you know that over 90% of those who get involved with a fitness program in the month of January dropout within the first 30 days? Just think of what happens over the course of 6 months.

There are particular reasons why New Year's resolutions don't work. Though, I am going to talk to you about how this relates to weight loss programs, you can apply it to almost any resolutions at the New Year.

Reason #1: Lack of Knowledge - Most of your information comes from marketers of weight loss products and programs. They do not have your best interest in mind (only their own). So, you're confused about what to do. To keep it simple, if you're not participating in a program that includes weight training, cardiovascular exercise, and supportive nutrition, then don't do it.

Reason #2: Poor Planning - You must not only know how much weight you're going to lose (the long term goal), but what steps you going to take to get there (short term goals). Most importantly, you must write these goals down and set them at a realistic expectation.

Reason #3: Lost Motivation - Sure, you can show up at the gym for a couple of weeks, but that does not create a pattern. To keep the motivation up, you must keep expectations realistic, have an enjoyable environment to train, and if that doesn't work- hire a professional trainer.

Reason #4: No Accountability - First, you must realize that willpower does not exist. If it did, you sure is heck don't need to read about why New Year's resolutions don't work. Everything works for you. In order for you to be accountable, you must have rewards and consequences. You must have someone hold you to the consequences. The rewards? Well, I doubt you'll have a problem with that one. Once again, a trainer is you best bet.

Reason #5: FEAR OF FAILURE - One of the reasons that you don't do the things you're suppose to at the beginning, is due to your lack of commitment. You fear that all the time and energy to do the right things will not work. Therefore, you put yourself into another cycle of the "quick-fixes." You'll either say you're too old, too weak, "I have to get into shape, to get in shape," or whatever. However, let's get real about it. You're just coming up with another excuse as to why it want work, because you know that you're going to have to work at it. Understand that you're going to have to go through a little pain (both physically and mentally). Except that it will require your time and money. In the long run, you will achieve more pleasure as you become stronger, improve blood flow, decrease cholesterol, and lose weight. The pain you feel now, equals pleasure tomorrow. Don't fear failure, but except it and learn from it.
